Pauly D Workout

Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio loves to DJ, but also has a love for the gym. Pauly D goes to the gym 4 to 5 times a week and actually has a gym in his house so he can workout whenever he wants. The fact that Pauly D gives himself 2 to 3 days off from working out is ideal. Giving yourself proper rest is good for the joints, prevents overtraining, and can lead to more muscle repair and strengthening. Exercise puts stress on the body, including the joints, which don’t have much padding for protection from injury. A much needed rest between exercise sessions helps keep your joints healthy. In addition, you have a much less chance of overtraining. Overtraining is when exercise intensity is too excessive and the exerciser doesn’t allow sufficient recovery between workouts. In other words, overtraining is counterproductive. If you workout 6 to 7 days a week, you are at a much greater risk of overtraining. Not to mention, rest days are critical for muscle repair and strengthening. You break down muscle during exercise. It’s during the rest period when you build muscle. Pauly D does it right with his rest periods. The Jersey Shore star likes to do two body parts a day with cardio in the mix.

A typical training split for him may be chest and biceps, back and triceps, shoulders, and legs. Many people train chest with triceps and back with biceps. This is because when you work your chest, you are also hitting your triceps. When you train your back, you are working your biceps. You are basically killing two birds with one stone. However, this can also be counterproductive. If you separate those muscles then you won’t burn them out as much. You can train them when they are fresh and lift with a much heavier weight rather when they are taxed from working your other muscle. When you train chest, you are indirectly working your triceps. Same with back and biceps. You can actually train the muscle more if you separate them on different days, which can actually lead to more muscle growth.

Pauly D also likes to do abs every other day. People make the mistake of training abs everyday. It’s just like any other muscle. You need to give your abs about 48 hours to recover. Sometimes doing abs every other day may be too much but it depends on your genetics and body. In terms of the resistance, Pauly D alternates between free weights and machines. Free weights incorporate more compound movements and work the stabilizer muscles. This is better for building you up and building strength. On the other hand, machines are better for isolating the muscle and can be useful for structural purposes. By incorporating both, you are able to reap all the benefits of using both. However, free weights should be the basis of your workout.

The biggest issue with Pauly D’s workout is that he doesn’t train legs enough. He told Men’s Fitness, “We don’t do enough legs. If we skip something, we’ll skip legs.” This may be the downfall of his training program. Leg exercises are some of the best at releasing hormones to trigger growth. Squats, deadlifts, and other leg-based exercises release the most growth hormone. Doing legs can actually build your body up more than doing any other muscle group. They are also some of the best cardio you can get. If you want to skip something, choose anything but legs!

Even though Pauly D loves to party, he knows the importance of keeping his body fit. He believes that “you have to find a happy medium” between partying and working out. He believes that if you workout hard and eat healthy enough then you’ll be just fine. Pauly D certainly has the ripped body muscles and abs to show that partying doesn’t destroy your physique as long as you take your fitness seriously!
