Woman ‘Going Blind’ Drinking 28 Cans of Red Bull Each Day

A woman claims that her daily Red Bull consumption caused her to start going blind. Lena Lupari, 26, wasn’t drinking just one Red Bull each day. She was drinking 28 cans (over seven liters) of the energy drink per day! That’s nearly $9,000 on the drink each year. Lupari, who is unemployed and from Northern Ireland, spent a quarter of her monthly benefits on the energy drink.

She was consuming about 3,000 calories each day from the drink and 200 teaspoons of sugar, which caused her to be over 360 pounds. As a result of her extreme weight gain, her brain began to swell. This condition, known as idiopathic intracranial hypertension, gave her severe headaches and changes in vision. She claims she was unaware of the harm she was doing to her body until one June day when she collapsed and went to the hospital.

In addition to drinking 28 cans of Red Bull throughout the day, she would only have a meal at night, which would usually be something fast-food related.

Since her hospital visit, she cut out Red Bull completely and lost 28 pounds so far.

MP’s Take: I’m surprised she didn’t die! What did she expect from drinking 28 cans a day??!! There’s going to be obvious health problems with energy drinks when you drink it that much. She’s ingesting so much caffeine and other stimulants like guarana and ginseng. In addition, Red Bull contains taurine, which has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system that some deem as very unnatural and potentially dangerous. I think drinking Red Bull in moderation is fine but you should always be wary of how you feel when drinking it. Also, what’s with only eating once per day and only having fast-food? That’s a terrible combination to put your body through on a daily basis. Good thing she got her life together and cut the drink out completely and started losing the weight!
