Does Your Fitness Tracker Actually Work?

Off the top of your head, how many fitness apps can you think of? There are tons of ways to keep track of your fitness progress. But does your fitness tracker actually work?

A new study out of the Journal of the American Heart Association suggests fitness apps and trackers really can help people reach their fitness goals. The review looked at past studies measuring the effectiveness of various apps and other tools, and found that people who used them were more likely to actually reach the milestones they set for themselves.

MP’s Take: In reality, not all fitness trackers are completely accurate in terms of how many calories you’re actually burning, but it’s not always about the numbers. Because fitness is as dependent on your mindset as it is on your physique, sometimes a mental boost, like getting a virtual badge for meeting a goal, can push you to keep working out regularly and give you a reason to keep improving. If you have trouble motivating yourself to work out or you don’t feel like you’re building muscle or getting the results you want out of your exercise throughout the week, using a fitness app might help you. These kinds of tools can persuade you to set specific goals and motivate you to work harder to achieve them.
