Best Cardio Workouts for Fat Loss

Fat-burning exercises are the most effective when performed at high intensity for short bursts of time. The quicker you burn through your energy stores, the more fat you are likely to lose. Here are three cardio workouts that promote fat loss.

SPRINTING FOR FAT LOSS

When it comes to fat loss, shorter workouts performed at high intensity are the most effective. Therefore, sprinting – running at a faster pace for a shorter distance – is a more beneficial workout than jogging – running at a slower, steadier pace for a longer distance. Sprinting forces you to push your muscles further than you might be used to. That burning sensation you feel in your calves? That’s a good sign.

JUMPING ROPE

Jumping rope is convenient, efficient and extremely effective. It works not just the muscles in your legs, but strengthens your entire lower body, too. Depending on your intensity, you could burn up to 1,000 calories in just one hour of jumping rope. There isn’t much equipment required, either, and you can easily store a rope in your bag and take it anywhere with you. It’s one of those cardio workouts you get better at the more you do it.

HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT)

HIIT is performed on virtually any exercise machine or on a track. It involves transitioning from low to moderate intensity exercise to very high intensity intervals, alternating between the two, typically for 15 minutes or less. HIIT works because fat loss is dependent on calories out exceeding calories out. Short bursts of high intensity exercise actually help you burn calories faster.

High intensity workouts in short intervals will help you lose fat. As always, though, mix up your fitness training. Switch out high intensity exercise for moderate intensity training throughout the week to get the most out of your workouts.
