What's the Importance of a Pre Workout Meal?
Stu from Erie, Pennsylvania asks...
Question: I work all day until about 8 pm and then I head to the gym right after work, but most of the time without much energy. I don't want to stop for a coffee along the way because I'll be up all night with the caffeine. Coffee also doesn't sit so well with my stomach. What can I do to get my energy up so I don't drag through the gym?
MP's Answer: Stu, you need to eat before a workout. You need a mixture of simple carbs and complex carbs and some easily digestible protein about an hour before you workout. Also, you really need to make sure you are eating multiple times throughout the day. You need to brown bag some snacks and meals with you. That's why I suggest you get the 6 Pack Bags Meal Management System. It's a bag where you can store all your meals in during the day.
Perhaps you can have turkey on whole wheat bread with mustard. If not, go grab a Cellucor IsoPro Nitro Sport shake. They come in individual packets that you can bring to work and dump in a water bottle- mixing it easily. You shouldn't have a heavy meal but something to give you energy through your workout. Coffee is great, but Cellucor's M5 has an even better combination to give you enough energy to get you through your workout. However, this product won’t last long enough to keep you wired when trying to fall asleep. You'll have the energy to go hard, but if you make sure you go hard in the gym with full intensity, you'll be exhausted so you'll fall asleep as soon as you hit the sack.
