Stay in Fighting Shape with Andre Galvao
Mixed Martial Arts has exploded in the last decade to be the most watched combat sport in the world. Many of the fighting styles have specialists who are primarily known for that particular style. In the world of jiujitsu, one name stands over the rest as a legend and among the best ever.
Galvão has so many championships that it would be difficult to fit them all in this column. From Brazil to the US and at all points in between, if you are in a cage or on a mat and Galvao is standing across from you, then it is going to be a long day.
In recent years, he has been honing his craft to take over the 170 pound class of Strikeforce as well as teaching students at his school in San Diego, California. He took some time to speak to me and share his training split as well as his supplement program to ensure he is always on top of his game.
I train three times a day mostly - some days more.
Monday Morning- 9am Conditioning, 12pm Jiujitsu Session, 6pm Jiujitsu session
Tuesday Morning- 9am Conditioning, 12pm Jiujitsu session, 6pm Grappling
Wednesday- 12pm Jiujitsu Session, 6pm Jiujitsu session
Thursday- 9am Conditioning, 12pm Jiujitsu Session, 6pm Wrestling Grappling
Friday- 9am Conditioning, 12pm Jiujitsu session, 6pm Jiujitsu session
3 times a week, I do 1 hour Boxing at 3pm
I like to do more cage sparring only during my camp training like 9 weeks before my fight.
Whey Protein after each training session
Vege Fuel (soy protein) in the mornings with my breakfast.
Endurance-type supplements before, during and after each Training session.
BCAA before and after.
8g of Vitamin C every day.
Multi Vitamins twice a day
Creatine 5g per day
Calcium Magnesium mornings and before bed.
Coq 10 before my strongest training session of the day.
I use more things like L-Carnitine twice day, morning and night. L-Lysine, L-Arginine with Orinitine.
