Eat More to Lose Weight
The biggest misconception is that the only way to lose weight is to cut calories. However, constantly restricting your calorie intake can actually slow your metabolism and thus slow down weight loss. In addition, many diets and weight-loss programs promise life-changing results in a short period of time as long as you keep yourself motivated. Nevertheless, once you stop the diet or weight-loss program, you may have serious problems keeping the weight off. In fact, most people have this problem. This is because a diet is a lifestyle, not an event. The second you go back to your old eating habits, the weight may pack on.
You are more likely to boost your metabolism if you eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. If you eat every 2-3 hours then you are telling your body that you are consuming enough calories. When you consume too few calories, your body goes into starvation mode and may actually hold on to these calories, which prevents weight loss. The reason you want to stay away from heavy meals is because your body can only digest so much food at once. If you eat too much, your body will fail to properly digest and instead store food in the fat cells. Eating smaller meals helps because there is less food being stored as fat. When your body is burning off excess fat, it can continue to burn off old stores of fat and lose even more weight.
