Dark Chocolate
Who says chocolate is bad for you? In actuality, dark chocolate ranks right up there with blueberries and green tea as a super antioxidant. Cocoa beans are full of healthy nutrients and, because dark chocolate contains more of the cocoa elements, it is healthier than other forms of chocolate which are diluted with various ingredients. Chocolate contains a variety of essential minerals including copper, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron.
Recent clinical trials even suggest that adding dark chocolate in a regular healthy diet reduces blood pressure, increases circulation, provides a mild source of anti-clotting and keeps plaque from forming on arterial walls. It also has a similar low glycemic index as oatmeal which means it maintains healthy blood sugar levels.
Many people grab a chocolate bar or dive into a tub of chocolate ice cream when depressed. The reason is that chocolate makes us feel good. Chocolate contains a concentrated source of theobromine, a natural stimulant, as well as caffeine so you get a mental boost from eating it.
