Cantaloupe
This mouth-watering melon had been labeled a high source of folate by the National Institutes of Health and the Office of Dietary Supplements. Folate is an essential B vitamin which is a water soluble micronutrient which prevents anemia and promotes healthy cell maintenance and growth. Cantaloupes also contain carotenoids which help to decrease some cancers and the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Cantaloupe provides a good dose of vitamin C which helps with proper tissue formation of the skin, blood vessels, muscle, ligaments and tendons. Vitamin C also supplies protection from free radicals as an antioxidant. It also contains a high level of potassium which is an important element in the healthy contraction of the body’s muscles.
