Blueberries

Blueberries are known as a true antioxidant powerhouse. Researchers at Tufts University found that blueberries were the strongest antioxidant out of 60 fruits and vegetables studied. Blueberries are packed with an antioxidant called anthocyanin, a pigment responsible for the blue color of blueberries. The presence of anthocyanin helps neutralize free radicals, which can fight off and protect against disease and aging of the body. Moreover, a recent study found that blueberries deliver 38% more of free radical fighters than those found in red wine, which is another known powerful antioxidant. Blueberries also may help your brain function better. According to an animal study, researchers found that blueberries help protect the brain from oxidative stress and could diminish the effects of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. In addition, researchers found that a diet rich in blueberries can help enhance the learning capacity and motor skills of aging animals.
