Bench Pressing Improvements
If you notice people at a gym who can bench press a lot of weight they also train the other major muscles of their body. When Bench Pressing big weight it is important to also train your legs, back and chest for overall development. One important factor that hinders many lifters from bench pressing more weight is that they neglect improving their grip strength. The first aspect of a successful bench pressing lift is to grip the bar and squeeze it with confidence. The focus will not be on how heavy the weight is but on squeezing the bar and locking out the lift.
Squeezing the bar as hard as possible will recruit more muscle fibers during the lift and increase your power during the lift. If you utilize this squeezing technique when you are bench pressing, you will lift the weight easier than you would if you did not squeeze.
When beginning your lift you want to hold the bar in the lock out position because this will help you to improve your ability to lift heavier weight. Holding the weight in this position will help to improve your lock out strength. Being able to lock out the weight can sometime make or break the successful completion of the lift. If you cannot properly lockout the lift you're not completing a full range of motion and depriving yourself of total muscular development. This simple technique of holding the weight at lockout will help to improve your strength and force your body to recruit more muscle fibers during the lift.
Grip strength is one of the most neglected aspects of bench pressing and it is important that you begin to focus on improving your grip. There are a few different ways of improving your grip strength but you must be aware it is not muscle strength. It is tendons and ligament strength primarily. You can Google grip strength or get a free copy of the critical bench e-book for instructions.
In the Critical bench pressing program using a wrist roller to improve your grip strength is explained in detail. Using the critical bench wrist roller will help to improve your grip strength and help to increase the weight you can bench press. One of the key aspects of the wrist roller is the avoidance of over training the forearms. Improving your grip and wrist strength will help you to hold heavier weight and increase the muscle fibers being recruited for bench pressing.
