Amy Rozier Interview

MP: What sparked your interest in health and fitness?

AR: I have never really been one to workout much.  Upon turning 35 I decided that it was now or never to get myself in shape.  I did not want to look like a 35 year old mom of two.  I wanted to look and feel younger!

MP: Why did you decide to leave your job as a buyer in fashion merchandising and pursue a career in figure and fitness modeling? Was this is a difficult decision?

AR: After competing in my first show, I was hooked!  I realized this was something that I was very passionate about.  I had worked in retail for 14 years and with the long hours, taking care of kids and a home; I had to make some changes.  It was a very difficult decision, but with the help of my husband I decided to quit my full-time job and start this newfound career.  I have never regretted a day of it.  Being able to do what I do and still be home for my children after school was the best decision I ever made.

MP: What goes into fitness and figure modeling? How do you physically and mentally prepare to live this lifestyle?

AR: It is definitely a lifestyle.  Most importantly is taking time to workout and eat healthy daily.  One thing I do differently from a lot of competitors is the fact that in off-season I do not stray too far from my daily diet.  When being a fitness and figure model you must be physically ready for photo shoot at all times.

MP: Your rise in the fitness industry has landed you several great opportunities. Describe some of these opportunities.

AR: I am very blessed to have had some great opportunities since I began this modeling career and I hope to have many more.

I have been in:              World Physique Featured Ms. August 2009

Oxygen Future of Fitness January 2010

Planet Muscle Hot Body October 2010

Physique Magazine Feature Super Model March 2011

                          ’s Xtreme Athlete Feature

MP: What would you say is your proudest fitness accomplishment?

AR: My proudest moment is when I have women coming up to me at shows and telling me that I have inspired them to get in shape!  Also, as a new fitness model I look up to the girls in Oxygen. Like Jamie Eason and for me to have made it in the Future of Future was quite a happy moment for me too!!

MP: What types of workouts do you do to maintain top shape?

AR: I weight train 5 days a week and do at least 45 minutes of cardio.  My weight training consist of 3 days of upper body and 2 days of legs.  I like to incorporate plyometrics to my workouts as well.  I also do 3 days a week of boxing for great cardio and shoulder workouts!  Maintaining a good diet is also very important to staying in shape.  My motto is “Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym!”

MP: If you had to pick one, which exercise do you deem as giving you the best results? Why do you think this is so?

AR: I would have to say as much as I hate them, haha, that box jumps are the exercise that gets my legs and butt in top shape.

MP: What do you see as the biggest difference between cardiovascular training and weight training when it comes to toning?

AR: For me I weight train to build muscle then go heavy on the cardio when getting ready for a show. This will lean you up helping to get that last bit of fat off.  A good combination of both along with a good diet will help keep you toned year round.

MP: What is your best advice for an aspiring female fitness competitor?

AR: It is hard work but, with the determination and dedication you CAN do it!  It doesn’t happen on it’s own and it does take time.

MP: Describe the perfect man.

AR: The perfect man is one who will love and support you no matter what!  I love a guy is a perfect gentleman.

MP: What’s something people may not know about you?

AR: I use to be a very shy and insecure person!  If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be doing this, I would have told you that you were crazy!

MP: What are your future goals both personally and professionally?

AR: My future goals professionally are to continue competing in Physique.  I hope to eventually get sponsored by a supplement company.  I also have dreams of being in Oxygen!  My goals personally are to continue to provide a loving home for my family and continue this journey of a healthy lifestyle.  I have learned that I am a role model for my children not only morally but physically as well.  Teaching them about healthy eating habits and physical activity is very important to us as a family.
