A Lesson in Humanity- The Boy Who Cared Too Much
The Story:
A young boy goes up to the counter of an ice cream shop and asks the waitress how much an ice cream sundae with the works (banana, chocolate fudge, and sprinkles) costs. The waitress replies $3.50. The boy reaches into his pocket and counts his money slowly to see if he has enough money for it. The waitress gets impatient as he is searching in his pocket as she has "bigger customers" to wait on, looking to serve the "sure-fire" customers. The young boy then asks how much plain ice cream in the bowl would cost and she replies $2.50. Again, the boy reaches into his pocket and counts his money slowly. The waitress gets increasingly impatient as this is going on, and tells the boy she'll help the boy as soon as she's done with the other customers since he took too long to order. The waitress finally serves the boy after all the other customers are done ordering and serves the ice cream at his table. When the young boy is done eating and the waitress goes over to clean up his dish after he left, she notices that there are 4 quarters lying down on the table. She realizes that the boy had enough for the ice cream sundae with the works, but sacrificed it so he could leave her a tip.
Moral of the story:
Never judge anybody before you get to know them and always treat everyone with courtesy, respect, and dignity at all times.
